The United Architects of the Philippines Graduate Auxiliary (UAPGA) marked World Architecture Day 2025 with a two-part virtual event themed “BANAAG: Disenyo ng Kinabukasan, Tatag ng Sambayanan” held via Zoom, October 12. BANAAG featured a reimagined webinar and in-depth mentorship sessions that brought together young architects, graduates, and experienced professionals in shaping stronger, future-ready communities. Guest speaker Ar. Consuelo “Peach” Buencamino, Principal Architect of C.C. Buencamino Architect and an ASEAN Architect, delivered the main lecture, “Designing Strength: The Role of Architecture in Shaping Tomorrow’s Communities,” stressing the importance of integrating resilience, equity, and cultural identity into architectural practice. Further, the Angat Sining Arkitektura mentorship session introduced five core advocacy pillars: public education; public health, nutrition, and food security; climate action and sustainability; community engagement and empowerment; and arts and culture to equip emerging professionals with the knowledge and direction needed to meet the evolving demands of the architectural field at that time. Dela Cruz, Chapter Vice President for Program and Operations of UAPGA Manila Centrum, highlighted the initiative’s broader mission with each mentorship pillar explaining its role in contributing to sustainable community-building, underscoring principles and guidelines aligned with current societal needs. “Angat Sining Arkitektura promotes inclusive and well-informed design,” Dela Cruz said. “We aim to amplify the presence and relevance of Philippine architecture in shaping modern society.” Moreover, the event concluded with a second open forum where attendees consulted mentors on architectural career development and professional growth, followed by a raffle draw and final photo opportunities that capped the program. “Your enthusiasm and active participation have truly enriched this event, making it more vibrant and rewarding for everyone involved,” Barde, National Executive Director for Governmental and External Affairs, in her closing remarks, acknowledging the active involvement of the organizing committees, guest speakers, and mentors. Through BANAAG, UAPGA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an informed and supportive architectural community, strengthening its efforts to promote continuous learning and professional advancement among architecture graduates.
